Thank you for your interest in volunteering to raise one of our potential breeder puppies in your family home.

I invite you to complete the Service Dogs Australia (SDA) Breeder Home Care Questionnaire and return it to us. This information about your lifestyle and expectations will assist us in working together to see if a puppy/adult dog from SDA is a good match for you…and us!

Our aim is to match healthy, happy, well-socialized puppies in caring, committed placements that acknowledge the pups’ heritage and capabilities.

Our pups are raised with the intention of assisting the service dog industry in two ways:

Remaining on the SDA program to undergo infrequent, planned breedings in order to offer quality puppies around the world to programs and people in need. This pup would stay in your home long term.
Being raised with the intention of qualifying as a breeding dog to travel to other breeding service dog breeding programs around the world in order to support and help improve genetic diversity of the that program, or quality of dog it is able to offer it’s client. This pup would move on from your home at approximately 18 months of age.

We would collaborate with you to ensure that you are comfortable with the intention behind socializing your puppy and ultimately where we hope your pup will reside long term. Raising a potential breeding puppy that may travel overseas one day is an amazing way to give your time and energy to the quality of global service dogs in the future, as well as a great way to connect with programs and staff overseas as you follow the progeny of your dog impact those around it.

SDA is a specialized Service Dog breeding program that serves the global Guide, Assistance and Facility Dog industry. We place our dogs in loving, inclusive, safe home placements if we believe the placement will be a great success for both the dog and the home. We want our pups to be enjoying active, social, family lifestyles that includes loving companionship inside the home.

Our program is small, does not breed frequently and breeds service dog proven lines. For multiple generations, these breeding lines have had specific health and temperament traits selected for, or against, with the goal of developing an ideal service dog that demonstrates excellent trainability, comparatively lower distraction and anxiety levels than most dogs, natural willingness and intuition toward people and of course sound, reliable health through assessment of orthopedics, cardiac health, ophthalmic health and genetic disease testing.

Are you comfortable have a dog in your home that you do not own? Communication between the SDA team and our family homes is critical in order to achieve optimum conditions for our pups. Decision making for our pups health and welfare ultimately rests with the SDA program. Our expectations and commitment to our pups health and welfare are of a professional standard, accompanied by a professional budget. Your thoughts?

SDA pups live inside the home with their family, but we do teach our pups to comfortably rest outside when family members are away when they are a little older. Do you have a safe, shaded area outside where a puppy pen could be placed during the day?
